A popular Prunus for the rock garden or any position in full sunor part shade. The interest begins in early spring when the reddish flower bud emerge to reveal typical prunus flowers in clusters. Colour is white, flushed pink and the plant lasts for several weeks in full flower.
After the flower has finished the deep green serrated leaves emerge and last through the summer months. Autumn colour sets in, firstly leaves turn golden yellow and then quickly to bright red, this colour is retained for several weeks. Even after the leaves have fallen the plant provides interest - the branches have an unusual angular 'zig-zag' appearance although rapid spring growth on young plants may not show this.
