An attractive evergreen perennial which requires a well drained soil in full sun to do well. The evergreen leaves are quite lanceolate, up to 10 cms long, glossy deep-green and wavy margined. They form a rosette which can be up to 15 cms wide or so on well grown plants. Flowers are very conspicuous being very large and brightly coloured. Each are held in loose heads atop fleshy stems to a height of around 15 cms, individually lasting a week or so but the whole plant will flower for many weeks. Best planted in an acutely drained soil or even on an angle to allow water to drain from the centre of the rosette. Good for alpine house culture.
