A herbaceous perennial grown mainly for the foliage effect, it does however have attractive flowers. Foliage emerges in early spring from swollen roots. Colour is very variable but imagine a hosta with typical variegation and then splash greenish-cream paint all over the foliage. You can still see the underlying variegation clearly but it has another irregular variegation which is more of a splash. Flowers are borne in mid summer on rigid stems, each stems carries numerous flowers of a tubular shape. Colour is lavender-purple and these are followed by green seed pods.
