A good rock plant from the Caucasus region which is herbaceous and emerges in early spring with young shoots which expand to produce the loose mats of green foliage. This is quite small but covers the ground very well but is a clump former rather than a spreader. Flowers are very attractive and a mid violet-blue colour, bell-shaped and produced in rapid succession. Flowering period is mainly in early summer although sporadic flowering continues throughout summer.
