A Chinese species from Sikkim, Myanmar and Yunnan. Growth begins in early spring with the emergence of the stout arching rich green stems. These carry both leaves and flowers, the leaves are deep green with conspicuous veining and the whole reaches around 30 cms in height.
Flowers are small and star-like, numerous in number, produced in terminal racemes and reddish-brown with no obvious scent. Bright orangey-red berries follow.
