This is an unusual plant from North America where it grows in alpine tundra as tufts of growth. The foliage is near vertical and a rich green in colour making loose growths from which emerge the short flower stems.
The flowers are a clean white but light variations of purple are evident in the tepals etc giving a good contrast. All of the flowers are borne on one side of the stem (secund) which adds to the interest.
