An unusual species which has leaves suspended on short petioles on slender stems to around 25 cms high, reaching up to 35 cms in ideal conditions and larger clumps. Flowers are a deep red colour, without pedicels and are strongly erect - up to 5 cms high. The sepals on this species strongly recurve down between the leaf petioles giving the Latin name. Leaves can be variably marked adding to the interest.
