These are really attractive european alpine plant from the Carpathians to Yugoslavia which do best in a little shade through the midday. Essentially evergreen leaves are pale green at first but soon darken down to their more usual deep green as they mature. They are rounded and slightly scalloped being held individually on petioles to 2 cms long which rise directly from the rootstock. In early spring the flowers are produced, these are purplish in colour and held singly, again rising directly from the rootstock, numerous flowers are produced from each plant. As you can see from the photo, they are pendulous and quite frilled around the edges.
