An slightly encrusted rosette forming evergreen perennial which produces rosettes to around 2 cms wide. Each is pale green and, in limey soils, a deposit of lime can be seen around the edge of each leaf. The upper surface has small growths like warts which are covered in the limey secretion also. Flowers are a strong rosy-red and held on wiry red stems adding a little more interest. Numerous are produced giving a frothy appearance for several weeks.
