A smaller herbaceous alpine for the rock garden or scree. The lanceolate deep green leaves emerge in early spring forming a tidy rosette, from which rise rigid stems. The flowers are borne on the upper part of the stem, these are deep violet and spikey, arranged on a central stem which has a cone-like shape.
