A choice woodland perennial from Japan (Shikoku and Kyushu) which has attractive foliage and flowers. Growth begins rapidly in spring with the emergence of the reddish tinted young leaves from the overwintering rootsystem. These are palmate with shallow indentations, glossy pale green in colour and up to 25 cms wide. The flowers are held on 90 cms high stems which may have a few leaves also. Flowers are quite numerous, pale creamy yellow and either hang pendulously or face outwards like shuttlecocks. An easy species which adds an exotic touch to the woodland garden.
