A lovely woodland perennial from North America. Interest begins in spring with the emergence of the foliage which is quite glaucous blue at first but as it unfolds, it takes on a rich matte grey-green colour. These are held individually on wiry petioles which emerge directly from the rhizome laying just beneath the soil surface. Spread of the plant is indefinate although it is not a fast grower tending to make solid clumps. Flowers are borne shortly after leaf emergence, these are white in colour and held upright like wide cups, maybe up to 2 cms wide when fully open.
