An unusual Iris in that it flowers in mid winter rather than spring or summer. Foliage is evergreen and Iris-like in shape - long and narrow, quite thick and with a smooth texture but the veins are visible. These are held vertically, or nearly so, from the rhizome which slowly creeps along the ground at the soil surface. Flowers are around 7cms wide with the standards and falls (types of petals which they have) held near horizontally. Colour is variable as these are seed raised but generally shades of lavender to purple.
