A herbaceous perennial grown mainly for the foliage effect, it does however have attractive flowers. Foliage emerges in early spring from swollen roots. Colour is pale glaucous blue with a whitish sheen beneath. Flowers are borne in mid summer on rigid stems, each stems carries numerous flowers of a tubular shape. Colour is lilac-lavender and these are followed by green seed pods.
