A very attractive more or less evergreen perennial with kidney shaped deep green leaves having three lobes. A cross between H maxima and nobilis bringing the best characteristics of both.
Hepatica maxima is grown mainly for the foliage effect, the leaves can reach up to 10 cms wide and emerge initially with fine white hairs. These are borne usually after the flowers which rise first in early spring, usually around mid march. The flowers are a good mid pink in colour and much larger than nobilis hybrids.
