Spreading by means of short stolons this plant tends to produce a thicket of wiry stems which carry the elliptical glossy deep green leaves just 2 cms long and a little narrower. These are deep bronze-red when young. Flowers are borne in racemes on short pedicels and are white with large red berries to follow. An easy species in sun or light shade providing the roots do not dry out.
