Relatively small but numerous leaves are quite lanceolate and held on typical wiry stems are present year round. New growth starts in the spring with the flowers rising first to a height of around 25 cms or so, followed later by the fresh new growth. This is one of the deepest red flowered hybrids and was named after professor William Stearn who provided us with the fabulous book on Epimediums.
