This chinese species is evergreen but the new growth rises in early spring shortly after which, the flowers emerge. Leaves are quite elongated, large and deep green with serrated or spined edges. Young growth is often tinted bronze. Flowers are borne in long racemes, are a clear yellow in colour, hang pendulously from upright stems and have broad petals. Named after the chinese naturalist Li Shih-chen.
