A fascinating genus of plants from the Berberidaceae family. This species is evergreen but the new growth rises in early spring shortly after which, the flowers emerge. Leaves are flushed pink-bronze when young but colour up to a fresh green when mature. These are quite long and acutely pointed adding to the interest. Flowers are borne in short racemes, are a relatively deep purple with lighter outer petals.
