A fascinating genus of plants from the Berberidaceae family. This species (it's a named species)is evergreen but the new growth rises in early spring shortly after which, the flowers emerge. Leaves are flushed pink-bronze when young but colour up to a fresh green when mature. These are quite long and acutely pointed adding to the interest. Flowers are borne in long racemes, are a pink colour throughout with deeper pink shading. An unusual feature of this species is that the flowers have both reflexed petals and sepals.
