This species is evergreen but the new growth rises in early spring shortly after which, the flowers emerge. Leaves are quite short and deep green with serrated or spined edges. Flowers are borne in short racemes, are a clear orange/yellow in colour, hang pendulously from upright stems and have broad petals. This species flowers from late April to early June or July and then occasionally in September making it one of the longest flowering hybrids. flavum x wushanense
