This is a larger species of Cyananthus when grown well. The stems emerge in very early spring carrying numerous apple-green scalloped leaves to 1 cms long, these have a fine haired surface which is more obvious when the leaves are young. Flowers are up to 1 cm wide and long, rich purple/blue with black hairs on the flower calyx surface, deeper in colour than the species. A super addition to the rock garden where it should be planted at the front of a larger trough or to cascade over a wall etc. A more scalloped leaved form than lobatus or the Giant form with maybe slightly deeper blue flowers.
