A hardy herbaceous plant which is grown for the crisp white flowers which emerge in early spring before the leaves. Each stem carries just a few flowers but there may be numerous stems, especially on larger established plants. Foliage arrives a little later and is apple green when young and unfolding to a deep green. Each is rounded with a slightly serrated edge. Please note that this plant will grow in woodland situations as well as full sun.
