A subtle little ericaceous plant from Northern temperate regions including the UK where it grows in we peat bogs etc. Leaves are evergreen and deep green with a whitish underside, quite small - maybe less than a centimetre long and a little narrower. Winter imparts a reddish colour to the foliage. Flowers are whitish and the usual bell-like ericaceous type, followed by glistening red fruits. Slowly spreads by runners.
