One of the more robust species which can even do well on Limey soils. The foliage emerges in early spring being folded upwards around the flower. This gradually falls down to lay horizontal revealing the strong leaf marbling which lasts for most of the lifetime of that leaf. Flowers are fully sessile (stalkless) and usually red to rusty orange in colour, although other colour forms do exist. If you get a nice yellow plant, please let us know!
