The leaves are a reddish-green on the upper surface with a strong red colouration beneath reaching around 25 cms long and clasp the rich red/purple stem. The flowers are the main interest being very much orchid-like in appearance. A single large upper petal and two smaller lower petals of a pale lavender/pink colour. These are borne in loose flower heads although only one flower is present at any one time.
