These are hard working little plants from southern Europe and mainly Italy. Nearly evergreen or herbaceous in hard winters, the new foliage rises in early spring before the flowers. This is deep green and glossy, quite deeply dissected and rising directly from the rootstock making little tufts of growth. Flowers are quite simple, white buttercup-like and held singly on 10 cms stems, produced numerously. Very similar to Ranunculus alpestris, differing only in that the petals have two distinct lobes or a notch making it look that way.
