Hardy herbaceous or deciduous Primula which produces long scalloped mid green leaves with prominent veins and midrib tending to be vertical when young but laying flatter as it matures. The flowers are borne on rigid stems which rise from the centre of each rosette. Flowers can be very numerous and are held in spikes at the top of each stem. Each flower is funnel shaped, rich purple in colour and to add to the interest, the calyx is scarlet red! A lovely species requiring a moist but well drained soil to thrive.
