An evergreen pereenial which has rigid woody stems making small shrubby growths. Leaves are very much needle-like, pale green and around 1 cm long, borne densely along the stem. Flowers are a nice pale orange red and are slightly different from the norm for the genus. They are around 2 cms long and tubular, borne in mid season. The species is from Mexico and the USA.
