A really attractive species from Japan. The stems rise in spring carrying linear, narrow deep green leaves which look attractive by themselves and may have some fine serration to the edge. The stems also have brown spots from top to bottom. Flowers are borne on the upper parts of the stems only and are turkscap in form. Colour is rich canary-yellow and the flower is spotted purple-black throughout.
