A seldom offered sub-species which reaches only 6 inches high or so. The leaves are the first to come into growth early in the season and often pushing above ground in December to await warmer weather. Leaves are deep green and leathery, around 5 in number which sheath the young flowers as they emerge in early spring. These are around 1 inch wide and look like snowflakes (according to literature) although they look more like white granny's bonnets to me!
