A herbaceous perennial grown mainly for the foliage effect, it does however have attractive flowers. Foliage emerges in early spring from swollen roots. Colour is a medium green on this hybrid, but some fine marbling is present and discrete creamy-green variegation. This is from H. kikutii yakushimense but is a much nicer plant in our opinion. Flowers are borne in mid summer on rigid stems, each stems carries numerous flowers of a tubular shape. Colour is lavender-purple and these are followed by green seed pods.
