A herbaceous perennial grown mainly for the foliage effect, it does however have attractive flowers. Foliage emerges in early spring from swollen roots. They unfurl and at this point the foliage is at its best. Colour is rich green and white to cream with a good amount of variegation. The whole leaf is very much lanceolate. Flowers are borne in mid summer on rigid stems, each stems carries numerous flowers of a tubular shape. Colour is lavender-purple and these are followed by green seed pods.
