A herbaceous perennial grown mainly for the foliage effect, it does however have attractive flowers. Foliage emerges in early spring from swollen roots. They unfurl and at this point the foliage is at its best, colour is rich and water droplets sit on the surface and refract light making the whole plant look fresh. Colour is pale glaucous blue with a whitish sheen beneath. Flowers are borne in mid summer on rigid stems, each stems carries numerous flowers of a tubular shape. Colour is lilac-purple and these are followed by green seed pods.
