A reliable variation of the species of gentian which does not require the acid conditions of the Sino Himalayan types. This species will grow in any good garden soil providing it does not dry out. Foliage is heart shaped and deep green. The main difference from the species is that this is a compact dwarf variation. It will produce flowers of a deep blue to violet colour each with numerous hairs at the mouth. Very similar to septemfida.
