This is a hybrid of the two species and is a superb plant for the edge of a trough or to tumble over walls or a rock in the rock garden. Foliage emerges in early spring from a central point and initially looks very hairy. It extends on wiry stems and takes on a green appearance, each leaf is basically halfway in appearance of it's two parents - slightly serrated and around 1 cm long. Each stem grows flat to the ground and eventually terminates in a single flower. There are many stems and flowering can last from july until early frosts. Each flower is a strong violet blue and emerges from a black haired bud to around 2cms wide with violet hairs at the mouth. Highly recommended.
