This is a larger species of Cyananthus reaching up to 10 cms high in shadier conditions but spreading much wider on a larger plant, maybe up to 60 cms when grown well. The stems emerge in very early spring carrying numerous apple-green scalloped leaves to 2 cms long, these have a fine haired surface which is more obvious when the leaves are young. Flowers are up to 2 cms wide and long, rich purple/blue with black hairs on the flower calyx surface. A super addition to the rock garden where it should be planted at the front of a larger trough or to cascade over a wall etc.
