An impressive species with attractive foliage and flowers. Foliage is the first to emerge in spring, this is trifoliate and deeply veined with a fine red edge. Each leaflet is up to 30 cms long and hangs from the mid point of the leaf. The flower is held just below the foliage and is slightly elongated and arches over towards the front. Colour of the flower is rich red/brown with crisp white lines and the whole lasts for several weeks. Best is a sheltered spot in well drained soil.
